I missed the market close because the doorbell rang and the sheltie began to raise hell--and it was a delivery from that wonderful nonprofit charitable institution, Amazon.com.

It was my copy of Robert J. Shiller's Irrational Exuberance which I think will win him a post as secretary of the Treasury after a while if he wants it.

It only took 15 minutes to see that this is a must own/must read book. It's not exactly a giggle a minute--does not sparkle like Galbraith--but my God has it got the facts, the figures, the arguments, the examples, and the history. The P/E graphs are incredible.

It's a very grave indictment of the failure of politicians to take any interest in the bubble.

The book may actually save a small percentage of the population from financial catastrophe. Most people who read it will porbably set it aside (as did columnist George Will) because they don't want to hear what it tells them.
