That is certainly true, and I think that competent people ought to determine content. But think about it: by definition, the bulk of citizens are of average intelligence, and only a little more than 20% have a bachelor's degree. Even for the college educated, they frequently do not take economics or politics courses, certainly not statistics courses, and they forget much of what they have learned pretty fast, having just done well enough to pass. Thus, one cannot count on much background when addressing a mass television audience, and there is a lot of 'splainin' to do. If it is not presented interestingly, you are going to lose them.......
