RE:"You saw this at a computer show, huh? My roommate got one about four months ago at a price that was somewhat higher than the one you just quoted. Great system, though it's still too big to be considered truly portable. By the way, you forgot to mention that this system features an 810 chipset, the one with integrated graphics and no external AGP slot"

I suppose they have been out there for a little while. Down here in FL it takes a while for them to make their way over.
Certainly it's not as portable as a notebook but it's portable enough for me. Doesn't have all those expensive notebook parts either.
As far as the i810 chipset. I said it had a celeron. <G>
Also, there is a K6-2 version of the same computer. Up to a K6-2-550. Probably a better deal since the K6-2-550 go for a lot less than the slower Celeron 500s.

RE:"I disagree, though I'd still like to see the price of good laptops drop below $1000"

OK, show me a good notebook for less that $1000 that isn't already old technology when you buy it? Check the upgrade prices. Check the battery prices. Check and see if the warranty covers the screen. <G>

BTW, on you friends book PC, how does the picture look on a TV, screen?
Isn't this essentially an X-box in training?
