Latest Rumours re: TransCanada

1) Conoco is buying the Canadian midstream (gathering, processing
and extraction) for big bucks implying that TransCanada will get
its $3 billion from assets sales or more. This seems unlikely given
that preliminary, non-binding bids are only due this week and that
data rooms have not been opened yet.

2) Onex and the Caisse will buy TransCanada and use the right-of-way for a new fibre optic route. While TransCanada is trading at a deep discount to its asset value, it is hard to see even a financial player buying the company now given the uncertainty with respect to the future regulatory environment. With respect to fibre optic potential,
Call Net and 360 are already trying to sell existing fibre capacity.
