Selflessness
I finally know, fully, what that word means. When the Elian attackers after only a little pushing, admit that they see nothing wrong with slavery and dictatorship. "Hey, what ever turns you on" they say. They say that dictatorship is not morally wrong. They say "it may not be your style but who are you to judge."
For them to believe that dictatorship is not morally wrong for Elian means that they think it is not morally wrong for them. They see nothing wrong with a mob having its way with them ("who are you/I to judge") They see themselves as non-entities whose desires and life are unimportant if some ruler acting on behalf of society, the people, spotted owls, god, rock lichens, snail darters says so that their lives are property of the state.
As Marx said
"To each according to his need, from each according to his ability."
They, personally, can have no value for them selves-they are "selfless."
To them, a rock lichen is more important than they.
And you know what? I agree. |
