Netro Corporation Ships Fiftieth Deployment of AirStar System; Historic Milestone Marks Largest Deployment Base in Broadband Wireless Industry May 18, 2000 08:11 AM Eastern Time SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 2000--Netro Corporation NTRO , a market leader in broadband wireless access systems, today announced that the company has shipped its fiftieth deployment of Netro's industry-leading AirStar(TM) broadband wireless technology.
This shipment represents an historic milestone for both the company and the broadband wireless access market.
"We are pleased to have reached 50 deployments of the Airstar technology, which continues to give Netro the largest deployment base of broadband wireless solutions in the world," said Gideon Ben-Efraim, president and chief executive officer of Netro Corporation.
"This deployment and our worldwide partnering with Lucent, Motorola and others is recognition that Netro's leading-edge solution for IP and voice applications is becoming the global standard for new service providers. This gold standard technology has made Netro the market leader in the rapidly growing broadband access wireless market, which is now expected to reach $16.3 billion in 2004."
Netro's fiftieth deployment was shipped to Diveo Broadband Networks, Inc. (formerly Diginet Americas), which is a telecommunications company with operations in six countries in Latin America. The system will be installed in Lima, Peru, and represents Diveo's second deployment of Netro technology in South America.
"South America represents a significant market for broadband wireless access systems," said Ben-Efraim. "Netro technology can provide a gold standard solution to building a comprehensive communications infrastructure for voice, Internet and video traffic with quick and cost-effective time-to-market deployment in this critical area of the world."
Recent studies by several industry analysts are predicting rapid and significant growth in the broadband wireless access market. Earlier this month, The Strategis Group of Washington D.C. predicted that the global market for broadband wireless access solutions would grow to $16.3 billion in 2004.
