re: "spin"
very interesting spinmeistering going on today. Very early this a.m., saw Wash Post story indicating WCOM/Sprint merger might not be approved.

This has been known for some time. It's also known the parties are willing to make concessions to make the deal happen. Nothing really new in the story, if you read it closely.

Now the rumor of the potentially failed merger is big deal on CNBC. WCOM and FON stock are down.

I made a conscious decision this a.m. not to dump my small holding of FON....bought it in the first place because FON had offers of buyout long before WCOM came along....will probably have offers in the future if WCOM deal isn't approved. Plan to buy more FON if price drops substantially.

FON is third-largest long-distance company plus owns successful wireless component and major share of Internet backbone. It's a profitable company.

Suspect this is a headfake of some sort.....not to mention one more stupid move by the current Administration to sabotage successful businesses.

If feds don't approve WCOM/FON merger, that leaves T as the 800-pound gorilla in long-distance/wireless/internet plus cable. I thought the Clinton Administration didn't like 800-pound corporate gorillas.

Something's very fishy about it all.....in my opinion. Sorry for rambling.
