The consumer is getting a lot of excellent choices now.
I remain confident that Nikon, Canon, Kodak and Epson, among others, will continue to remain strong supporters of the CompactFlash digital film standard.

I also looked at the Olympus 3030 this past weekend. It is 3.3 megapixels and has a metallic case with a nicely textured and solid feel. It has only a SmartMedia slot. I would consider buying one were it not for this fact.

I hope that SanDisk will utilize the Toshiba JV to boost SmartMedia revenues and profits, even if they have to pay a royalty to Toshiba.

I will go on record stating that I consider MMC as the biggest threat to CompactFlash. In this regard SanDisk does wield some Gorilla Power over its competitors. Recall also that MMC can fit inside a CompactFlash and that a MMC to CF adapter is a distinct possibility. I would hate to see CompactFlash upstaged, but this may be a distinct possibility in the future. The Pocket PC models being released by Casio already indicate this migration is taking place in the handheld arena. Nothing like a little sibling rivalry to make things interesting.

The fact that MMC is compatible with the SDMC slot and the cell phone markets appear to be accepting of MMC as the lowest profile solution (see photos from Shareholders' Meeting), MMC's future is, indeed, bright.
