Good question.

My productivity is measured by the amount of source code that I can generate, debug and deploy in a given year.

I have had a cell phone for a few years and it is useful certainly but has not affected my output to any degree.

Instant Messaging is a virus and would definitely REDUCE my output. Never used it.

I have had an email account since 1986 and couldn't imagine life without it.

I tend to agree with Grant. Most of these gains are illusory. More cars per person is just a statistic of more mechanization but I don't think that is the same as more productivity.

Frankly for most people their output is similar to the output of their fathers.
