Date: Thursday, May 18 2000

Ericsson has signed a contract valued at USD 86 million with Guangxi Mobile Communication Corporation (GXMCC) to expand the GSM network in the region.

Nanjing Ericsson Mobile Communication Company Ltd., the largest Ericsson joint venture in China, will supply the equipment. Deliveries will commence in July.

Upon completion of the expansion project, capacity in GXMCC's network will increase to 2.2 million subscribers.

"We are delighted to co-operate continuously with GXMCC with our advanced technology and products to provide the region with a world-class GSM network," said Stephen Yeung, Executive Vice President of Ericsson (China) Co. Ltd.

"We will continue to give the best support to GXMCC for the introduction of data and multimedia services and thereby the evolution of GSM to 3G."

Ericsson was selected already in 1992 as the supplier for Guangxi's TACS network, and went on to supply its first GSM system to Guangxi in 1995. This project marks the ninth expansion of Guangxi's mobile networks since 1992.
