DWDM Meets Fibre Channel

While Deja Vu for Frank this was on Fiberopticsonline.

EMC Qualifies Storage Network Equipment Interoperability with Nortel OPTera Metro
5/18/2000 Following extensive interoperability testing, the Nortel Networks OPTera Metro Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) platform is compatible with EMC Corp.'s (Hopkinton, MA) Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems, extending the capabilities of Fibre Channel from the data center to a geographically dispersed metropolitan area.
The companies demonstrated these metropolitan area storage network capabilities last week at NetWorld + Interop show in Las Vegas. Optical networks use high-speed, high-bandwidth fiber optics to instantly and cost-effectively transmit large amounts of data between multiple EMC storage systems and servers over long distances. Customers are able to deploy these networks in campus or metropolitan areas for applications including E-commerce and to facilitate information consolidation, high-speed centralized backup, and storage area networking.
