SUNW has never made a dime from Java and it is doubtful they ever will. How much money did AT&T make from C or C++? The license fees don't amount to much and the whole thing is basically a loss-leader for SUNW. The idea is that Java is good marketing for SUNW (which it undoubtedly is) and that this will lead to increased hardware drag. I'm not sure if anyone has any statistics on whether that theory has resulted in anything measurable in practice, but I haven't heard SUNW making any such claims yet.
