Did you know my favorite building on the Acropolis is (no kiddingimos) ~ The Erechtheum?
The columns, are made of "maidens."
Girls.
Gracefully draped classical beauties.
Stone foxes.
It is the only place that comes readily to mind (get JFred on this) (or maybe Croc the Art Historian) where women are used in the place of columns to hold up a portico. Building. The "roof".
(I think there is another. If anyone can find it, I will give them....... uh....more work.)
Columns, are, most would suggest, except me, persistently phallic. At least they are in no (design) way feminine. "They are not in a female way."
This sets up a dandy argument. Uhm, discussion. (Fifty-fourths of which is hogwash.) In which Croc's favorite art professors will make fools of themselves, and freak everyone out, bad.
Still, the Caryatids (Maidens of the Erechtheum) (a.k.a "grasshoppers") ~ are astonishing for their uniqueness. Not just in the Greek world; perhaps the Whole World.
Really!
Think about that.
It's odd. ODD. Like, whacky.
Maybe.
Maybe not.
I hate when people tell me to "think about it." ("I think you should blow it out your.....")
Okay, now I gotta go to work.
Bye.
Stay classical. |
