Ron, Debian is a free distribution of Linux that Corel uses because they don't have their own -- dozens of companies do have their own legitimate Linux distributions. An emulator is something you use when you have can't run your software on Linux: you put a layer in their that emulates Windows at the price of performance. Star Office from Sun Microsystems runs natively on Linux, and it's free of charge. You should also check out Applix. When you're done there, realize that if you can't make it on Windows (which 90% of business have right now) after 10 years and ultra-low pricing, then there is something more fundamentally wrong. I hate to tell you this, but it's not the case that everybody is just stupid and buying inferior products for more money. Some of that does go on, but it's a lame excuse the rest of the time. I think Netscape still has 40% of the browser market, not 1% as would be the case had Corel taken it over.
