There have never been many Amazon auctions, and I would guess, based on your data and other data I have seen, that Amazon has about 100,000 ongoing auctions at any point in time.

This is also about what they had one year ago.

eBay is the king, but the problem is that this market is stagnant.

Somebody needs to present a more compelling case for people to put items they might otherwise throw away up for auction, and more buyers need to be brought in.

And part of the problem is that it is still too much work and too much to learn for many people to take the time to post items for sale.

I can really see my parents or their siblings listing items for sale on eBay. Not.

They would sell stuff if I did the work for them.

Hey, what an opportunity for a new breed of middleman.

Post auctions for people in your neighborhood or town, take a 20 percent cut. Maybe this is the kind of customer eBay needs to cultivate....
