Mattel fires Learning Company employees

update EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--Mattel, the giant toymaker, said it's firing an undisclosed number of employees at its Learning Company interactive division in an effort to make it profitable.

The majority of the division's workers are based in the California cities of Novato and Fremont, said Mattel spokesman Glenn Bozarth. Mattel is expected to fire about 500 people, according to the Boston Herald, which cited unidentified sources..."
