If Microsoft had virus protection in their operating system, I wouldn't have been subjected to the pain of the "I Love You" virus. It knocked me out for a week and a half and ate up over 40 hours of my time, troubleshooting, etc.. If they had incorporated virus protection in the operating system, I wouldn't have been in the mess. Unfortunately, if we used the government's logic, we would be adding pieces of software on top of pieces of software( I guess you will call this middleware.) Have you heard of software version incompatibilities. Have you tried to find the various driver upgrades and try to make them work on one platform, let alone two. Due to the "I Love You" I am painfully aware of this again. Government, it is hard enough, now we should complicate it more? We can get this all for about 90.00 now. Would you like us to pay additional dollars for various utilities like virus protection, data compression, voice recognition, find files etc... Remember these at one time were all sold separately and costly. Finally, do you remember the separate price of DOS, about $50.00 and the additional price of Windows, about $89...... combined $140.00. How can you still think that the price hasn't gone down. Do you remember the price for Microsoft Word and WordPerfect, about $495.00, now what............ smell the roses. How long have you been in the computer business? I have been in it since 1981............. where I saw this evolve...... remember Version conflicts, utilities needed and not included etc.. This virus protection issue is a perfect example of how and why we should include everything possible in the kitchen sink in our operating system. You are missing it. Mark |
