Ford would develop a very bad reputation very quickly if they deliberately made cars crash if they used other tyres.
You miss the point that if a customer does not like Ford, a substantially equivalent product can be bought from GM, or Toyota, or Volkswagen. This would only be an equivalent comparison to Microsoft if Ford's only competition were Yugo and Ferrari.
