I do not believe that the industry is perfectly willing to pass up good profits just to spite Rambus. More likely, that the industry is not willing to invest in a technology that has no annuity. See the following comments from Sheri Garber:

Semico expects DDR to make significant strides in the next year, moving from about 3.9 percent of the market in 2000 to about 17 percent in 2001. That far outpaces Rambus, estimated at 2.8 percent in 2000 and 2.5 percent in 2001.

They predict RDRAM marketshare reduction from 2000 to 2001. If this is true, and I believe it is, where would you invest your money?
