When talking about the Casio QV 3000 EX and Canon S20, that come with 16M CF but have an option
for Micro drive, their comment is "without Microdrive I do not recommend this camera."


Well, you could buy a lot better camera for that extra ?$350. Now you are talking about a $1000 instead of $650 camera. And what do you get for that money? Lets say you spend $100 on a CF card instead. Now you can store 100 or so of your best pictures, ,probably equivalent to 400 or 500 normal pictures of which the majority are not worth keeping, a more robust camera whose batteries will last longer, and $250 in your pocket. Doesnt seem like a hard choice to me!
