. . . Can LCOS lick the Summer Bear?. . . .

Dennis, I think that you have hit the question of the week. I wish I had as good an answer. I don't.

As the volume dries up [which happens every summer]. . . this bear gets teeth. . . especially devouring the former high fliers. LCOS has been holding its own, relatively speaking. But to predict that the bear will spare it. . . would take considerable nerve and foresight. . . so far the bear is sparing next to nothing.

Look around SDLI down 14 . . . Corning down 11. . .Sony down 10. . . Veritas down 9. . . Juniper down 6. . .Rambus down 7. . . Ciena down 11. . . .Sycamore down 8. . . Broadcom down 5. . . PMCSierra down 7. . . InfoSpace down 5. . . Ebay down 7. . .Network Solutions down 7. . .Aether down 7. . .

Folks! These are our most promising tech stocks! They are not crashing because they are no longer worthy, or because investors have lost interest or are selling. They are plunging because "big money" is shorting them down. . . so that they can own them at a low price. . . especially now that they have seen how well this group of tech stocks can perform when times are good. Incidently, this has the side effect of draining confidence out of individual investors.

By contrast, lets look at some tech names that have not recently seen extraordinary gains. . . .IBM is UP 1/16th. . . .PAIR up 3/4. . .AOL. . .down 1. . . .these don't NEED to be shorted like mad. . . because they are already near their lows. . .

If this was about investor SELLING. . . then more issues would be seeing similar declines as the high fliers. . . on a regular basis. Once again. . . and consistent with our longer range plan. . . we need to make sure our nets are handy when it appears a bottom has set in. . . for some that means each bottom. . .for swing gains. . . for others it means holding the QQQ short until volume returns and we leave this trading range. . .then scooping up whatever bargains are around. . . . and for still others, it means grabbing up the winners on days they get haircuts. . . or looking around for value.

The most important thing is that we keep our cool and stick to our game plans. . . not getting tempted to change strategies, just because the weather threatens.
