The bank conducted an in-depth evaluation of the Object Request Brokers (ORBs) available on the market prior to selecting Inprise/Borland. VisiBroker will provide inter-application communication for a wide variety of distributed applications ranging from back office settlement, front office customer-facing systems, e-commerce to global corporate banking infrastructures.
"We've been using VisiBroker for some time in different parts of our organization," said Dr. Kevin O'Connor, head of applied technology, CBIT Deutsche Bank. "Given the widespread third party support for VisiBroker in the industry, it made sense to adopt Inprise/Borland technology at a strategic level throughout our organization."
As well as VisiBroker's impressive object transaction performance, which was faster than the other ORBs evaluated, Deutsche needed an ORB that would allow applications to communicate effectively with existing legacy platforms. Amongst the main factors in their decision was the need for open standards compliance for C++ and Java 2 and support for EJB 1.1.
"With Java being used for extensive development at Deutsche Bank, it was important that the selected ORB be easily integrated with Java applications," said Dale Fuller, interim president and CEO of Inprise/Borland "Java and CORBA fit hand in glove. As Deutsche Bank is deploying across various platforms from NT to UNIX and mainframe legacy systems, portability and adaptability are key requirements."
VisiBroker's widespread industry acceptance and third party OEM adoption was another factor in Deutsche's choice of Inprise/Borland. Companies such as Sun Microsystems, Oracle and Cisco have all selected VisiBroker to provide essential CORBA support to their products.
Deutsche is also working with JBuilder 3.5 Enterprise for highly productive Java development and Inprise AppCenter to managed production distributed applications in production environment. |
