Honda Considering XM Deal?

Honda Motor Co. may buy a stake in XM Satellite Radio, a deal that could put equipment from the developing DARS contender into cars from the Japanese manufacturing giant, the Nikkei English News said.

According to the story, Honda plans to invest $50 million for about a 5 percent stake in XM. If an agreement is sealed, Honda will join General Motors as XM's two automobile manufacturing partners. Last year, GM invested $50 million in the digital audio satellite platform. XM's partners include DirecTV and Hughes Electronics, a GM-controlled company.

An XM spokeswoman declined to add anything to the story, saying the company won't comment on speculation or rumor.

In addition to the XM deal, Honda is also considering taking part in GM's OnStar service, which uses GPS technology to locate a vehicle and call for help during an emergency.
