Enzyme, Intel has the military mind-set that when conftonted with the reality that a child took 9 months to gestate said, "get me 9 women, I want that kid in a month!!"

Unfortuneately there are stages in design and production too that cannot be parallellised, but must be sequential.
The things we see happening with the Rambus and 820 are due to excess parallelism with departments developing one phase and another in isolation towards a commons goal and then finding they do not work well together because they needed more time to integrate the development of the several parts so it all worked at every stage. Now we find things like the hub not working? Rambus bugz? They should never have seen the light of day as broken things. Tests should have discovered the problems and they should have been fixed. Of course that would mean it would hit prime time in 2001-2 and now are being forved out immature this quarter. So why did this happen? There are managers there who do not understand R&D and feel that a deadline can be set and wgatever is ready by that deadline is released. There are people who cave under this and say it is ready when they know it is not. I suspect there are people in Intel just now finding out that failure was hidden at several levels and the end result was the rambus debacle as the hub problems. Same thing happens in academe....people fake test results to get published. At Intel it is to keep job until they vest(???) or just to keep it for a bit longer.

Has anyone heard of any fallout at Intel due to the rambus and 820 and hub problems? Things like firings and high level shifting that would indicate the rolling of some heads? Are those responsible so high up that they blame others and the others heads are rolling?

With Intel management I want to know who is Groucho, who is Harpo, Marko and Zeppo.

Bill
