Softbank will this fall start a venture to offer direct subscriber line Internet service on an unlimited-use basis for 4,000 yen a month, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said without citing sources. The venture, Xstage, will be capitalized at 100 million yen ($926,440). Xstage will be available initially in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, Japan's three largest cities, and will start ahead of Speednet, the wireless Internet service Softbank plans to operate jointly with Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Microsoft Corp.
