I'd not be too quick to attribute this move to short sellers. It seems to me like some supporting institutions decided to reduce their positions and acted fast to do so. You are right, though ... there was no time to get out of the way when the institutions came over the berm at full throttle. That's one reason I keep down-side stop loss orders set on issues I own during those times I own them.
