Omaha conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway Inc. late Thursday announced its acquisition of a family-run chain of jewelry stores based in Seattle.

The purchase price was not disclosed. Berkshire, which counts Omaha's Borsheim's Fine Jewelry & Gifts and Helzberg's Diamonds among its many holdings, will take ownership of the Ben Bridge Jeweler chain within 45 to 60 days, the company said in a press release.

Ben Bridge Jeweler has 63 stores in 11 western states.

Steve Davolt, vice president for Ben Bridge Jeweler, said Friday morning that the Berkshire deal will allow co-chief executives Ed and Jon Bridge, fourth-generation owners of the 88-year-old company, to continue running the chain and to make long-term plans. The chain has been growing steadily, adding three to five new stores each year.

"There will be very little effects," Davolt said of the deal. "We've been assured it will be business as usual."

Berkshire representatives could not be reached for comment on the acquisition.

"I can't tell you how pleased we are to enter into this association with Ben Bridge Jeweler," Berkshire Chairman Warren Buffett said in a press release. "Run by an outstanding management team, Ben Bridge will be a great addition to the Berkshire family.>>>
