SSTI

As a purist, I look not only at licensing agreements, but the fruits of these agreements. SSTI uses licensing agreements primarily to secure fab capacity. Royalties in the form of cash are quite small. Also, SSTI competes in the embedded, low density flash market and is not a direct competitor of SanDisk. I believe they buy high density flash on the spot market in order to complete their product line up. In fact, SSTI is the first flash competitor to license the "card assembly patents" that SanDisk owns. They pay SanDisk a royalty for every CompactFlash card they sell.

FLSH

My understanding is that FLSH has expertise in file management and controller technology. They do not have their own flash manufacturing capability and buy NAND flash chips from Toshiba for their DOC product. I suspect they will eventually be a SanDisk/Toshiba "FlashVision" JV customer.

It would appear that all roads lead to SanDisk.
