I still use vi for bulk edits of source files -- these days that's Java and JSPs.

I'm not criticizing anyone for using old stuff -- vi and sed continue to be some of the most powerful editing tools ever developed (many editors today still have a weakened or nonexistent regular expression capability -- a fact which is inexplicable to me). I was simply criticizing people for using old stuff when there are newer, much, much more efficient tools available.

If someone had remarkably improved vi's functionality, you would be using the improved product... the fact is that vi (and sed) are extremely flexible tools. I once wrote a program generator in sed script that would take a set of COBOL FDs and create a custom file maintenance application. It was trivial to write, because sed was so damned good.

As for INPR, my position continues to be that the technology is excellent and somebody, somewhere, is going to figure out how to make money selling it. The company has a future. I'm not sure, given the CORL fiasco, what role the current management has in it.
