Here is a great article on the state of DSL. CED MAY 2000 (Communication Engineering & Design) xDSL marks the spot? After a shaky start, DSL services are on the move, possibly into a cable headend near you... (http://www.cedmagazine.com/ced/0005/0005b.htm) From the article: "...One of the most ambitious and most-watched DSL service rollouts is taking place in Phoenix, Ariz. That?s where US West has gone all out to deploy VDSL service, which first began in June 1999. Its' fiber-to-the-neighborhood technologies offers fully integrated digital video and high-speed data to residential and business customers...." =========================================================== I can not find any reference on the AFCI's Web page regarding any research or development of VDSL technology. =========================================================== Also from the article: "...Cable's DSL play? One of the most intriguing developments is the possibility of cable operators, as well as other cable-centric companies, using DSL services to complement and expand their overall broadband plans. Just last month Excite@Home, along with its affiliate, @Home Solutions, announced their entry into the residential high-speed DSL market through a multi-year strategic relationship with Rhythms NetConnections..." Comment: This is where a lot of potential growth is. I have not heard anything from AFCI regarding deployment of any specific "hybrid" equipment to integrate DSL services for the cable companies. Perhaps a box that provides for DSL over cable... It sounds like cable & DSL services could "morph" together into something new for the future. A very interesting article worth discussing. EKS
