Excellent post, lml. Borrowing from both your and Mike's approaches, however, perhaps a third type of entity that could round off the checks and balances of oversight might be a wild card entrant. Like a wireless outfit, or one of those fiber-to-the-home firms who is hooked up with the utility companies. Perhaps you should extend a personal invitation to one, or both, of these media forms as you have to RCN. Come to think of it, though, I think that RCN is in fact working with some of the utilities. Be that as it may, what do you say that we crank it up a notch! The incumbents have had long enough to prove themselves, and apparently they've failed in your case.
Which brings back the notion that if a franchised entity can't deliver on a set of expectations within a prescribed time frame, then the franchise should be re-awarded, or an incremental franchise should be awarded, to someone else. Sometimes, often, it's much easier to do a bunch of horizontals than it is to further the mission of one vertical. |
