L. L. Knickerbocker Announces Pure Energy Corporation Appointment of Irshad Ahmed as Vice President and Chief Science Officer of PEC
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif., May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The L. L. Knickerbocker Co., Inc. (Nasdaq:KNIC) announced today that Pure Energy Corporation (PEC), a bio-based alternative fuel company in which LLK holds a 38.3% equity investment interest, announced it has appointed Irshad Ahmed as Vice President and Chief Science Officer of PEC. At PEC, Mr. Ahmed will be responsible for directing the Company's research and development programs, effective June 1, 1997. Prior to joining PEC, Mr. Ahmed has been Director of Renewable Energy and Biotechnology for the consulting firm of Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Inc.

Mr. Ahmed has spent more than 11 years researching and developing renewable energy technologies, alternative energy and energy conservation systems. His work in both the public and private sectors have integrated advances in biotechnology and engineering for the production of biofuels, biochemicals and biomaterials. He serves on the boards of a number of biotechnology and renewable energy organizations. He is the President of the Board of Directors of both the National Biodiesel Foundation and EarthOne Inc. and is a consultant to the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences.
Mr. Ahmed holds a B.S. (with Distinction) in Chemical Engineering from Osmania University in India, and has advanced degrees in Chemical Engineering and Agricultural & Biological Engineering from Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire. In addition, he has received specialized training in Chemical Plant Operation & Technology Management from the School of Chemical Engineering Practice and the Sloan School of Business Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
