Tom, I use broker contacts to confirm my hunches on stocks I see moving on volume...usually start my search in the daily most actives and narrow my search down. If there is enough momentum in the demand for the stock I can usually make 10-20% on the trade in 1 to3 days...of course it doesn't work all the time;)
