PTC Wins US Army Contract to Provide CPC Solutions; PTC's Windchill Unanimously Recommended For Army's ACMS Project After Extensive Evaluation of Five Products
WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2000--PTC (NASDAQ:PMTC), a leading provider of collaborative product commerce (CPC) solutions, today announced its solutions have been selected by the US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command's (TACOM) Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) in Warren, Michigan. TARDEC's Engineering Business Group selected Windchill, PTC's Web-based collaboration solution, in a competitive process where they evaluated solutions from five vendors. The PTC solutions were delivered during PTC's second fiscal quarter (ended April 1, 2000). Financial terms were not disclosed.
PTC's Windchill was chosen for its unique Web-based approach to collaboration, its comprehensive suite of e-Business solutions, and its patent-pending federation technology. The new system will lay the foundation for an enterprise-wide system geared toward a higher level of collaboration and sharing key engineering information throughout a product's lifecycle. A primary focus of the effort is to replace TACOM's legacy configuration management engineering data systems, enabling the command to more easily and effectively share product-related information via the Internet. In a joint evaluation, TRW Inc., TARDEC's system integrator, and Army personnel evaluated five product data management (PDM) products and unanimously recommended Windchill over the others for the Army's Automated Configuration Management Systems (ACMS) project.
"To maximize the collective value of engineering information the Army has residing in multiple repositories, we needed to find a way to share and collaborate on that information agency-wide," said Jerry Chapin, director of TARDEC. "Windchill's federation capability will allow us to pull information together from many sources and present it to our users, in context, through their Web browser. This fully integrated digital environment enables us to capitalize on our legacy investments, significantly decreases touch time and wait time, and allows us to drive down costs while increasing revenue."
"PTC's Windchill ensures organizations - including the US military
- get the most out of the Internet's power to automate and streamline processes, share information and increase collaboration both internally and externally," said C. Richard Harrison, president and CEO of PTC. "We're excited the Army has carefully evaluated its options and selected PTC's products as the most modern and advanced product on the market today."
Full implementation of the Windchill-based collaborative Army system will enable connectivity between all five TACOM sights: TARDEC, the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), the Red River Army Depot, the Anniston Army Depot and the TACOM Rock Island and has the potential of 1000 seats.
