Just got on with @home via Cox Cable, MOT Cable cybersurf modem, COMS ethernet card and installation all for $49 and $45 per month. I have lightning speed now way beyond this 56k or 100k stuff. Max speed on the cable modem is supposed to be 10mb. When they start rolling out to all major cities, why would anyone buy a snail pace 56k modem?"

As new subscribers come on line, your speed will go down; can't say what it will ultimately be, but, it could drop into the range of ISDN 2BRI, or for a fully loaded system, you could get to the 56K range, conceivably. The new cable systems look terrific to the first users because there aren't many to share bandwidth yet; wait until the systems start to become loaded and watch the speed drop.

Of course, it is still probable that your cable modem will always be faster than a dial up 56K modem, however, the speed WILL go down over time as the system fills up.
