Okay, I'll back off re history.

The links you brought to the table are valuable. However I cannot shed the perception that they are suggestive, strongly so ... but not conclusive. I brought up the dating metaphor earlier, and it was not frivolous. An aspiring lover needs to be clear and declarative about his intentions. These texts fail that standard. Imo.

Another part of this problem, a can of worms I really don't want to open, is about the nature of love. Are we talking about the love that can develop between adult equals, or the highly directional, patronistic love of a herdsman for his animals? They are both love. I would accept the former, but I would reject the latter. And I don't find any of these texts to be a clear, satisfactory declaration of love-among-equals of God toward man. And as we're written to be made in God's and not Dog's image, love-among-equals would be more appropriate than love-toward-pets.

So, while I will agree that Del is on shaky ground with his blanket claim (in the light of the strongly suggestive texts you have linked) I can't agree that he is flat wrong. You aren't to be faulted for believing him wrong; don't get me wrong! I can't agree to more however than he's kinda sorta wrong.
