DSL CPE Market Hits $199 Million In 1Q00

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2000--DSL CPE revenues totaled $199 million in 1Q00 and are forecasted
to grow to $635 million in 1Q01,
according to Infonetics Research's quarterly worldwide market share and forecast
service, ``Broadband Hardware: IADs, DSL, and Cable.'' This is the first quarter in which more than one million cable
modems and routers were shipped, totaling $249 million in revenues. Infonetics Research forecasts the market for DSL CPE (ADSL, SDSL, IDSL), cable modems and routers, multi-service routers, and T1 IADs.

``The broadband market exploded in 1Q00, with significant increases over 4Q99 shipments worldwide,'' said Infonetics Research's Director of Access, Jeff Wilson. ``Service providers in both DSL and cable have really stepped up their installation capabilities. SBC is a good example of this: they were completing 3,000 installs per day by the end of April. We expect this phenomenal growth to continue for several years.''

Infonetics Research's 1Q00 delivery of this service includes data from 3Com, Accelerated Networks, AccessLAN, ACT, Alcatel, Cabletron/FlowPoint, CAC, Cisco, Com21, Copper Mountain, Intel, Lucent, Motorola, Netopia, Nortel Networks, PairGain, Terayon, Vina, Westell, and others.

``Broadband Hardware: IADs, DSL, and Cable'' helps companies understand the size of the market, how it's growing, and who's leading in the various segments of the market. The quarterly service, delivered electronically, provides worldwide market share data and shipment and forecast data divided by North America, EMEA, Asia Pacific, and the rest of the world.

With the rate of growth if DSL CPE, the price of WSTL is a real steal especially considering that SBC is WSTL's largest customer -- though still unannounced.
