Re: Leaving the island of Manhattan and entering real America is a reminder how sick this nation is getting. It is a rare site to see a person who is not 50 to 100 pounds (or even more) overweight. I felt like making a citizen's arrest when I saw this morbidly fat woman in the San Antonio Zoo, feeding her fat child ice cream, while the kid had some kind of crackers and a soft drink next to him.

Joe-

You think people are fat in New York and Texas? You must have never been to any of the midwest states.

I think this has a lot to do with our government attempting to take every form of self-accountability away from our citizens.

Drive like a moron; that's what car insurance is for. Don't brush your teeth; that's what dental insurance is for. Don't plan for your retirement; that's what social security, medicare, medicade, etc are for. Don't eat and live healthy; that's what health insurance is for. Can't hold down a job; that's what unemployment compensation and welfare are for. Obviously, I could go on and on...

The sad thing is, even if we started to hold people accountable for thier own stupidity, it probobly wouldn't make a damb bit of difference. As long as there's democrats, it will only continue to get worse.

Last summer, I had to go on a 6-month stretch without car insurance. It's amazing how much your attitude changes when you know you will be held accountable for your own actions if you act reckless and dumb. For 6 months, I was a perfect driver.

PS- Before anyone jumps all over me, I'd like to say I just graduated from a college with about a 50% graduation rate. I see the choices that people my age are making around me. The rest of their lives, many of them will be looking for some form of public assistance. It's very hard to feel sorry for any of them. I strongly believe in self-accountability, too bad our government is the opposite.
