I must admit I haven't studied Talmud. But in my subjective opinion the crux (dduuhh...) of the New Testament is truly frightening. Why oh why would the salvation of man hinge on terminal cruelty to the single most loved? It's like the story of Abraham and Isaac, but with the follow-through. Owie, to quote my firstborn daughter. No matter how I slice it, the God-concept that evolves out of the necessity of the Crucifixion is somehow antihuman. I can't buttress this notion with logic ... I can only report it, and that it has proven durable in my heart and mind.
