Martin,
Intel tries to use software patches to handle the bug. I give a name, "Interceptors(tm)". Intel tries to intercept the bug before the bug send to CPU. Intel tries to config the "Interceptors(tm)" to operating system, like PC DOS, OS 2, Window 95, Window NT, UNIX...etc. This is the very cheapest way to solve the problems. But I doubt the speed of FPU will slow down. How slow so far I don't know because I am not a member of Intel team. I think Intel software engineers already tested and they should be able to tell us. Anyway, this is so interbees called, leader and superior, Intel's masterpiece. By the way, if you like to use "Interceptors(tm)" for your article to publish all of world next time, by all mean.

Best wishes

James
