Scumbria,

OT

Obesity has little to do with personal accountability.

Obesity is mainly caused by the addiction to carbohydrates, which as any addiction is a function of personal accountability.

It is the result of genetic factors

While there is some genetic component to how your body reacts to food, it is by no means an excuse for obesity. It just means that some people will have to exercise more self control to remain slim than others.

and a food supply which is devoid of nutrients, and full of hormones and chemical toxins.

Agreed that these are bad, but these don't cause obesity. A lack of some nutrients can be remedied by supplements, I personally try to get meat without hormones, but I am not sure it is conclusive that the hormones given to animals can make it to human bloodstream and remain active. Toxins can of course be bad. The question is how much of these toxins could be removed from the environment, or from farming without harming the economy excessively. I think a lot of them. Unfortunately, rather than performing a rational cost / benefit analysis, people get too emotional about these issues and nothing gets achieved.
