Because NTAP's proprietary product is the OS, rather than disk drives, changing disk-drive technology is about as relevant to NTAP's competitive edge as changing power cord technology. It is something that is stable across the industry, and on which NTAP does not rely for its edge.

Online storage: definitely a market for NTAP. When people do more of their storage online and less on their PC's, the % of storage capacity in enterprise configurations vs on PCs will shift.

Optical, holographic, etc, etc storage: definitely again a market opportunity for NTAP. Stuff like optical storage tends to have large economies of scale... a benefit for companies like NTAP, again using the paradigm of enterpise configurations vs individual PCs I mentioned above.

Sorry for a pretty incoherent post; just finished off about 15k miles of air travel and my brain isn't sure what time zone it's in :-)
