Random thoughts part two,

Played two well respected courses this past weekend. One is my all time favorite and if you ever get to the lower Northwest part of Michigan then you should play it. St. Ives and its not to be missed.

But my point is...what a pleasure to play a course that is perfect. 18 greens that rolled em EXACTLY the same. So I started thinking (I know I should not do this, but it just happens anyway). I wonder how they do this at the good courses. Does anyone know? Do they stimp each one and then have specific mowing instructions for each green to balance the different light and rain each might get? Or do they just use a blend of grass that when cut to a given level will yield a specific value? I want to understand so when I complain about my local course I can be informed.

Anyway, I putted like a man possessed.

Do you ever play with someone who you know is never going to get better? I play about twice a year with a group of friends who play just like they did five years ago. I find it interesting because I see some of my old ways of thinking when I watch them. Simple stuff too. We played a course designed by PGA player Dan Pohl. The bottom line was one of the dudes I played with could not understand the rough, and it was only about 2.5 to 3 inches. I told him that I think Dan wants to reward you for keeping it in the fairway. He didn't have a clue as to what I was trying to say.

Have a good one all and lets hope for some sun this weekend, where ever you are.
