Look, if I need an explanation on a technical aspect on how my NIC cards work in my computers, I don't have any qualms about asking the service rep to explain it "so that a six year old can understand", that's one thing. I maintain a certain level of "willful ignorance" because frankly, I just don't have time or inclination to know every aspect of how my computers work. I only care when it affects me adversely. But to assume that the American people in general can't grasp a relatively simple concept like SS without doing it with "production value" does betray a certain elitism or condescension. However, a simple chart might be good. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. Geez.
