Dear Scumbria:
All food is not devoid of nutrients. If it was, No one would live or "Get Fat". I am a FAT person. I just happen to like food. Before I graduated from college, I was 143 pounds at a height of 6'3". During the period just after college, around 21 or 22, something switched in my body. I started to gain weight eating the very same things and quantities I did before, if not less. I have been gaining since then. Now, I have been able to slow this advancement through much difficulty. I am now around 350 at the same height.
I believe that there is something genetic going on. When I was at 143, I had many troubles because I was underweight. Swimming was a big problem. I tended to sink. All the flailing did was slow my sinking for a while. I think that some time in the future, a single drug or perscription will be able to stop this weight gain (or loss) cold. Perhaps some gene therapy will be able to cure this and many other diseases caused by genetics.
Although being fat in among itself should not be a bad thing. Many European Coutries have a culture that thinks a Fat person is very successful. Perhaps, this is a failing of our society and not that of individuals. Still, no matter what is found out, I must take responsibility for the fact that I do not smoke, do not drink alcohol, only take drugs by the perscription of a doctor, and I am fat. One is responsible, even if, one has no control.
