SED International do Brasil Enters Into Exclusive Contract with Extreme Networks
May 23, 2000 09:13 AM Eastern Time ATLANTA, May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- SED International, Inc. SECX announced today that SED International do Brasil has entered into an exclusive agreement with Extreme Networks (one of the largest providers of high performance network solutions). With this agreement, SED International do Brasil will become the exclusive distributor of Extreme Networks products in the country. With this strategic move, Extreme Networks (who recently acquired the corporate accounts division from 3Com) positions itself to compete with other manufactures for a portion of the existing installed base. "Their know-how in large network projects, their knowledge of the 3Com customer's base and their penetration in the high-end market were key factors in our decision of choosing SED as our exclusive distributor which are fundamental in our strategy," explained Leonardo Bon, country manager of the Extreme Network subsidiary in Brazil.
Ronell Rivera, President of the Latin America Division and Brazil Subsidiary of SED International explained, "The partnership with Extreme Networks strengthens our leadership in the high-end products market. Extreme's decision to grant us an exclusive contract shows their confidence in our performance and our capability to provide the necessary pre- and post-sale support. We are committed to provide them with our networking structure that has a proven history of seriousness and knowledge in this sector."
Bon also added that "Extreme Brazil's main focus in the short term would be to work with the installed base of Core Switching applications which was created by the Corebuilder product line of the acquired manufacturer (3Com). Besides this temporary opportunity, we also intend to serve large corporate accounts, especially those with potential to start new backbones multi-service projects or integration with metropolitan backbones." Additionally, he commented on a creation of a Migratory Program of the 3Com Base to Extreme Networks as well as an orientation and qualification program for partners and potential customers.
"It is important to mention that as per Dataquest, the world market for Gigabit Ethernet will grow to almost $3 Billion for the year 2000 and SED wants to be, and will be, part of that pie," added Rivera.
