Sonny ---my understanding is that the government "implies that loans by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are guaranteed " . This allows the above institutions to borrow money on the open market cheaper than Banks and other lending institutions . The real issue hear is that the banks are crying foul especially since their business is drying up . What really bothers me if this "implied " issue is taken away what will keep housing loans down for the average individual ? Home interest rates are normally 1% above the 10 year note . If I am not mistaken they are now two and a half percent above the ten year note at most banks .
As for the FED I agree "they are furnishing the club but the houses are swinging it ". The out right lying going in the market is going to destroy any trust which in turns beget fear which is where we are at present .
Will continue to hold on to my stocks ---wish I had waited a little before buying in --- and let them grow into the price to recoup . For the long term both of us know where the market is heading . I guess we have to wait until ABBY say it safe to get back into techs to turn this market around

BEST WISHES
BILL

PS-- Several analysts on CNBC saying now that the market is heading toward 2500--- 2700 which would be a resonable value for the Nasdaq .
