marcos,

Thanks for the historicals between the US and Mexico. History is certainly more fine grained than most appreciate.

What do you mean, 'back' to its people - Cuba has never known democracy, power over it went straight from the spanish to a succession of US puppet dictators to Castro. As for how 'fictious' is Aztlan, let's wait a hundred years and see.

I wonder if during the long sad chain of corrupt Cuban governments, the people thought "it can't get any worse". But it did. While the US certainly reacted poorly to the 1959 revolution, at some point the Cuban people have to claim their rights, stand up, and say ENOUGH!

I think Juan Miguel is a good example of how Castro preserves himself by jailing/killing his opponents and dispiriting the general population.

As far Aztlan, I've spent some time in El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico and it's a world a difference between those towns and Cuidad Juarez and the other Mexican towns on the other side. I'm speaking only of the condition of hispanics in both countries. IMO I think mainstream hispanics would be the first to shelve that whole new age "Aztlan" concept.
