But you are right for now intel is going to try to satisfy public with
software patch. Martin, who corrected the original Collins post and got
in all papers, thinks that if software patch is going to be general
enough it might carry huge performance penalty.

It will be interesting to see if the public will accept a software patch. I have no idea about how much performance penalty it would cause but significant seems likely. My guess is INTC will try doing a chip replacement for those that ask for one only. That will be their first plan of attack to keep cost to a minimum. INTC is always on everyone's hit list looking for a problem. There are people out there just trying to find something wrong with their chip. In any case, INTC seems to come out on top every time.
