I know why God chose to destroy Sodom too. And I'd say it was a sucky reason, so to speak.

As for the New Testament being misused- I'd say that might be a fault of the text. I'm not aware of Buddhist texts inspiring killers. So the fault MIGHT lie partly in the document. Or at least that's what my logical mind suspects.
